What retaining walls cost

Why Moreton Bay walls fail
Moreton Bay is retaining wall country, and for two very different reasons. In the west and north, the growth estates at Narangba, Burpengary East, Warner, Dakabin and North Lakes were cut into undulating ground, so almost every block was benched and almost every boundary carries a wall. Those walls are now 10 to 25 years old and the first wave is failing. Closer to the coast, the older stock at Redcliffe, Clontarf and Deception Bay sits on sandy, low-lying ground where walls settle rather than rotate.
The cause is usually the same either way. Summer storms dump a month of rain in an afternoon, the soil behind the wall saturates, and water that cannot escape pushes the wall forward. Approvals, plainly
Councils and the QBCC set height and engineering thresholds for retaining walls in Queensland, and the builders we work with confirm what your wall needs before quoting. Building work valued over $3,300 generally requires a QBCC licensed contractor, which captures most retaining walls, so ask for the licence number and check it on the QBCC register before you sign anything.
